# Showcase

Deprecated predecessor to Spectra for development-time screenshots, short clips, and web walkthrough assets.

Status: archived

## Status

Deprecated in favor of **Spectra**. New screenshot and demo-capture work should use Spectra; install Showcase only to access or migrate existing `.showcase/` assets.

```bash
# Recommended — use Spectra instead:
claude plugin install spectra@rosslabs-ai-toolkit
# Legacy — only for migrating old .showcase/ captures:
claude plugin install showcase@rosslabs-ai-toolkit
```

## The Problem

Shipping a feature and writing about it are two jobs. By the time the feature is done, the clean "before" state is gone and the reviewer-friendly screenshot lives only in your head. Showcase solved the first version of that problem by saving screenshots, short clips, and web walkthrough captures during development.

## What I Built

Showcase is the legacy capture plugin that preceded Spectra. It is useful for accessing or migrating existing `.showcase/` assets, but new screenshot and demo capture work should use Spectra.

## Impact

The important status is the migration path. Showcase is deprecated in favor of Spectra, which keeps the content-capture mission but adds cross-platform capture, smart framing, discovery, and a tagged library. Showcase remains documented so older captures can still be found and migrated instead of becoming dead local files.

## How It Works

Claude Code hooks call Showcase MCP tools at opportune moments: after a UI file edit, when a flow completes, or when a test passes. Each capture carries file, feature, and component context from the current conversation, then writes to a local `.showcase/` library. The finder retrieves assets by tag, feature, date, or free text.
